Lot Description

A mid-Victorian silver jug, of circular bellied form, ornately embossed with floral, cross hatch and beaded details surrounding twin opposed shield cartouches, one with engraved monogram, leading to a foliate capped scroll handle, raised upon a circular stepped base. Hallmarked Martin, Hall & Co (Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall), Sheffield 1872. Height measuring 5 7/8 inches (14.9 cm), weight 8.5 ozt (266.4 grams).

In good condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The gilt interior has dirt residue visible and appears dull to the spout area. One cartouche is engraved with a monogram, possibly 'WER?'. Remnants of polish visible. Hallmarks clear and legible.
