Full Lot Description

A mid-Victorian silver inkstand of shaped rectangular outline, decorated with a border of foliate motifs and geometric patterns and standing on four leaf capped bun feet, having a presentation engraving before a central well with a figural cover modelled as a lady holding an official scroll, and flanked on either side by two silver mounted glass ink bottles. Hallmarked F.Brs., Sheffield 1866, with bottle mounts hallmarked Birmingham 1866. Maximum length of stand 12.5" (31.7cm), weight excluding glass bottles 32.24 ozt (1002.7 grams).

<li>Item displays general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing, in keeping with age and use.

<li>Glass inkwells show some minor chips and losses, with both hinged lids in good working order.

<li>Presentation engraving reads: 'Presented to Bugle Major Alexander White by the Officers 52nd Light Infantry as a mark of Esteem & Respect April 1867'.

<li>Item is extremely unsteady on feet.

<li>Border shows some polish residue through out.

<li>Central inkwell modelled as a lady is lifted from the mount.

<li>There is a puckered and dented area in front of the right inkstand.
