Full Lot Description

Assorted novelties, to include nine thimbles of varied designs, hallmarked to various makers, Chester 1896, 1900, 1907, 1911, Birmingham 1901, 1958, 1990 and one stamped 'Sterling Silver', a scent bottle with chain attachment, of oblique lobed form, hallmarked Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings (Frank) Shepherd, Birmingham 1887, a bookmark with plumed mount to mother-of-pearl terminal, stamped 925, a novelty bucket on chain, hallmarked Charles Boyton (II), London 1897 and a small dish, of shaped and embossed design, hallmarked Douglas Pell Silverware, Birmingham 1990, length 10.6cm. Gross overall weight 4.2ozt (131.8g).

  • Most items are in fair condition, showing general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing.
  • One thimble is cased.
  • Enamel to two thimbles appears intact and bright.
  • One thimble hallmarked Chester, with indistinct and rubbed date mark.
  • Scent bottle is in the poorest condition of all items, showing very dark tarnishing and dirt to corners and recesses between lobing. Edges show some bashing. Cover screws on and off well.
  • Dish is very bright and shiny. Hallmarks are rubbed but just about legible.
  • Bucket is material lined.
