Full Lot Description

A George III silver vinaigrette, the small oval form with stippled and wrigglework borders enclosing diaper pattern to top and bottom, and opening to a silver-gilt interior with filigree grille. Hallmarked Birmingham 1802, with maker's mark IT, possibly John Thornton. Length 2.7cm, gross weight 8.8g.

  • Displaying some general surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing commensurate with age.
  • Some surface wear and rubbing to the decoration causing some loss of detail, mainly to the engine-turning; however exterior of box appears in fairly good order overall.
  • Hinges to lid and grille all appear in working order and close securely; grille hinges with some slight movement.
  • Gilt interior with dirt and residues.
  • Losses to the filigree decoration in one area of the grille.
  • Remnants of a dried sponge are present.
  • Hallmarks located to interior, some minor rubbing but all still clearly legible.
  • Grille appears unmarked.
