Full Lot Description
England, Ireland & Scotland, Charles I & James II Double Sided Silver Plaque. 1688 & 1702. By John & Norbert Roettiers. IACOBVS. II. D: G: MAG: BRIT: FR: ET. HIB: REX. NAT: OCT: 17. 33. OB: SEP: 4: 1701. ÆTAT. 67, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust to right, 88 on truncation / CAROLUS D: G: MAG: BRIT: FRA: ET. HIB: REX. GLORIA MEMO, armoured bust to right. MI 215/538; MI I, 347, 202. 298.45g, 81mm x 94mm, 12h.
Excessively Rare - the individual plaques are extremely rare themselves making the double sided plaque excessively so. From a series of plaques depicting the Stuart monarchs. Medallic Illustrations attributes the James II piece to Norbert Roettiers but we follow Baldwin's (Auction 41, 4 May 2005, lot 1441) assertion that the date of the pieces indicates it is by the father John Roettiers instead.
Dimensions: 81mm x 94mm
Era: Stuart
Material: Silver
Postage: Free
Weight: 298.45
Total lot weight: 298.45
