On Monday 28th June, we saw the most extensive selection of toys to sell at Fellows in recent years. The collection of toy trains and ephemera sold a full price of £23,369.
The Collection
The collection spread over 50 lots in our June Antiques, Silver & Collectables auction. The items came from a single private collection from two West Midlands houses in Stourbridge and West Bromwich. Despite the modest estimates ranging from £50 up to £200, we saw several train sets sell for over £500 as bidders flocked to get their hands on their favourite miniatures.
We were thrilled to see many of the items receive hundreds of bids. Most popular were the OO Gauge model trains, but some lots also featured figures, race sets, and teddies. The top individual price was an OO Gauge model railway locomotive and train kit, selling for £1,122 in total. Boxed Hornby engines, N Gauge modern railways, and American model trains are examples of some of the sets that went under the hammer.
“It was full steam ahead for the train sets in our sale of antiques which were some of the most sought-after items we’ve sold in recent memory. Customers flocked to view the trains and the collection was so vast that we anticipated a high demand.
"It is great to see so many collectors of these model train sets, they’re the perfect items to help you relive your childhood and start a great collection of your own.”
