History of Bremont Watches

Established in 2002, Bremont was founded by brothers Nick and Giles English. Their passion for aviation and engineering came from their father, Euan English, an aeronautical engineer and a former RAF pilot. The name "Bremont" was inspired by a French farmer, Antoine Bremont, who helped Nick and Giles after a forced landing while flying over France. The brothers chose to honour this kindness by naming their watch brand after him.

The inspiration to create Bremont watches was born out of a tragic accident in 1995. Euan English passed away in a plane crash, and Nick sustained severe injuries. This event shaped the brothers’ vision to craft timepieces that could withstand the most extreme conditions. With this in mind they honoured their father's legacy and passion for aviation, and they began the journey that would lead to the creation of one of the most respected modern watch brands.

British Heritage and Swiss Precision

Although Bremont is a proud British brand, it draws from the heritage of Swiss watchmaking traditions. From the start, the English brothers aimed to produce watches that combined Swiss technical mastery with British style and craftsmanship. Above all, they set out to create high-quality mechanical watches that could be used in aviation, military, and other challenging environments.

Bremont watches are known for their rigorous testing and adherence to the highest standards of precision. The brand's timepieces are subjected to extensive trials, from chronometer testing to simulated high-altitude flights. This dedication to durability is demonstrated in particular in their motto, “Tested Beyond Endurance.”

Bremont's Iconic Models and Collaborations

Bremont's product line has featured several iconic models that have captured the imagination of watch enthusiasts. Especially their most famous collection the MB Series, developed in partnership with Martin-Baker, a British manufacturer of fighter jet ejection seats. These watches are tested to withstand the same conditions as Martin-Baker's ejection seats, making them a favourite among aviators and watch collectors alike.

Additionally, the ALT1 Series is a notable line which reflects Bremont’s aviation heritage with features like chronographs and GMT functionality, designed for precision timekeeping in the skies. The brand's Supermarine Collection is tailored for underwater adventures, drawing inspiration from British aviation history, specifically the Supermarine Spitfire, a celebrated World War II fighter aircraft.

Bremont has also collaborated with various British institutions, including Jaguar, Boeing, and the Royal Navy, creating limited-edition timepieces that reflect their partners' rich histories and innovative spirit. One such collaboration is with E.J. Churchill a prestigious British gunmaker known for its craftsmanship. Drawing on several design features from English shotguns, every watch was made with Damascus-style steel.

As a result, these collaborations have allowed Bremont to craft watches that resonate with the adventurous spirit of their audience while honouring the craftsmanship and design that define British engineering.

A Commitment to British Watchmaking

In 2021, Bremont took a significant step towards reviving British watch manufacturing with the opening of The Wing, their state-of-the-art headquarters and manufacturing facility in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire. The Wing represents Bremont’s dedication to bringing watch production back to Britain, a country that once stood as a global leader in horology.

This facility allows Bremont to produce more of its components in-house, from movement parts to case manufacturing.

Bremont Today

Over two decades, Bremont has become a symbol of British watchmaking. The brand has established a reputation for producing timepieces that offer both form and function, capturing the attention of adventurers, pilots, and watch collectors around the world. Their watches have been worn on polar expeditions, in military aircraft cockpits, and even on Hollywood film sets.

Finally, in an industry often dominated by heritage brands with centuries of history, Bremont has carved out a place by blending tradition with innovation. As Bremont continues to innovate and expand its presence, without doubt, it remains a proud ambassador of British watchmaking.
