Lot 391

Lot Description

A Continental snuff box, possibly 18th century Dutch, modelled as a bird with realistic feather moulding, the base with oval hinged opening.  Two struck marks to the underside, the lion rampant guarantee mark (for .875 fineness) and the letter 'N' below a crown.  Maximum height 4cm, weight 27.6 grams.

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The bird displays general wear and surface marks and scratches and there is also some tarnishing.  There is some wear to the feather decoration and also to the tip of the beak, etc., but otherwise the overall condition appears to be good.  The hinge is in good working order although there is a slight gap when it is closed.  Marks are rubbed but still legible.
