A late 19th Century French black slate and bronze mantel clock
Japy Freres, Paris, retailed by G. Philippe, Palais Royal
Having a 3.5-inch black dial with gilt Roman numerals, the two-train movement, outside countwheel-striking the half-hours on a bell, stamped "G. PHILIPPE PALAIS ROYAL 66 & 67" over 437, the breakfront case surmounted by a cast bronze seated figure of a classical female with amphora and mirror, possibly Sappho, signed in the cast 'Pradier', after Jean-Jacques Pradier, (1792-1852), the dial flanked by cast caryatids and lion mask ring side handles on breakfront plinth, 35.5cm x 17cm x 44cm high, (14" x 6.5" x 17"), sold with pendulum and winder

Dial - very slight scratch.

Case - both bronze and slate have a sticky lacquer to them akin to French polishing but no other damage.
