Lot Description

Early Georgian silver sifter spoon in Hanoverian Pattern with pierced shell bowl, bright cut engraved floral and foliate motifs to the stem and engraved monogram to the reverse of the terminal, hallmarked London, probably 1757;  together with a smaller sifter spoon (marks distorted) and a George III Old English Pattern plain silver sauce ladle, hallmarked Peter & Ann Bateman, London 1795.  Combined weight 3.82 ozt (119 grams) (3).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

All three display general wear, some tarnishing  and surface marks and scratches commensurate with their age and use.  Some deeper scratches in places and various nicks.  The decorated sifter spoon has some visible edge nicks around the terminal and the metal in this areas appears quite thin.  There is slight loss of detail to the decoration.  Hallmarks towards the base of the stem are quite squashed.  The smaller sifter spoon is quite heavily tarnished and has a small gauge out of the metal in the middle of the stem.  Some loss of detail to the engraved crest.  There are four struck marks to the lower reverse of stem but these are illegible.  The ladle is in quite poor condition, the bowl is very slightly misshapen and the metal appears thinner around the rim.  The stem is bent to one side and the engraved crest to terminal is very worn.  Maker's mark partly distorted but all marks are legible.
