Lot 68

Lot Description

A pair of Charles II silver Trefid spoons, the oval bowl with a ribbed rat-tail to heel, with scratch engraved initials 'W.D' to reverse of each terminal. Hallmarked London 1683, with maker's mark of a script initial D. Length measuring 8 1/8 inches (20.6cm), weight 3.86 ozt (120.2 grams).

Postage: Postable

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both displaying expected surface wear, marks, scratches and tarnishing but the overall condition is fairly good given the age of the spoons. The tips of the bowls do display heavier wear and the metal feels thinner in this area and the surface a little uneven. The trefid terminals have faired well. Hallmarks located to reverse of stems, with expected wear and distortion. Some of the marks are heavily worn and the leopard head is not visible on one of the spoons. A similar initial maker's mark is listed in Jackson page 84 but not attributed.
