Lot Description
A George III silver swing handle basket by Peter, Ann & William Bateman, the oval form with a scalloped and gadroon rim enclosing engraved foliate borders and a double crest engraving to the centre, depicting a lion rampant with fish scaled lower body alongside a dolphin, the whole with swing handle and raised on an oval collet foot with conforming gadroon edge to both. Hallmarked London, date letter worn probably 1804. Maximum length 14 1/2 inches (37 cm), weight 26.74 ozt (831.7 grams).
