Lot Description

A William IV Newcastle silver three piece tea service, comprising teapot, cream jug and sucrier, each of compressed circular form with acanthus capped curved handles, and raised upon circular stepped foot, with silver gilt interiors. Hallmarked Newcastle 1837, maker probably John Walton. Length of teapot 11 1/4 inches (28.5 cm), gross weight 37.25 ozt (1159 grams).

With scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing. Rubbing and distortion to some hallmarks.

Teapot with a number of small indentations and knocks, including six knocks to one side of body and a large knock to other side. Hinged cover shuts, but does not close flush to unless pushed. Finial slightly bent to one side. Edge of spout with some nicks. Pin to base of handle protruding and handle with some light knocks and surface slightly uneven as a result. Ivory insulators to handle with cracks. Base uneven and with knocks to one side, teapot unsteady on base as a result. Silver gilt interior worn.

Cream jug with a few light small indentations to body and one larger knock. Edges with nicks.

Sucrier with a few light small indentations to body and two larger knocks to one side. Edges with nicks.
