Lot Description

An Edwardian silver inkstand, of tapering oval form with foliate pierced sides beneath satyr modelled handles and beaded rim, having central recess with conforming beaded rim containing an associated cut glass inkwell with faceted sides, star cut base and hinged silver cover, the stand raised upon four compressed bun feet. Hallmarked Chester 1902, inkstand with maker's mark George Nathan & Ridley Hayes, inkwell Nathan & Hayes. Length of stand 8 1/4 inches (21cm).

With general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with age and use.

Scuff to one side beneath pieced detail. Central inkwell recess loose. Inkwell cover misshapen to one side, and does not close flush. Glass body with scratches and small chips and losses, particularly to edges.
