Tom Ford's legacy extends beyond his creative contributions. He has become, and is, synonymous with modern elegance and pushing artistic boundaries. Tom Ford at Gucci
In the late 1990s, Tom Ford played a game-changing role at the Italian fashion powerhouse, Gucci. Taking over as creative director in 1994, Ford rescued the brand from financial troubles. His impact was revolutionary, giving Gucci a fresh, modern feel that resonated with a younger audience. Ford didn't stop at designing chic clothes; he revolutionised advertising, creating buzz-worthy campaigns that became the talk of the town. By the time of his departure, the company was valued at $10 billion.
Ford's genius went beyond fashion; he introduced the now-iconic double-G logo and pioneered the idea of a "Gucci lifestyle," utterly blending high fashion with contemporary living. His transformative touch not only saved Gucci but elevated it to unprecedented heights, solidifying Tom Ford's legacy as a visionary in the fashion landscape.
In 1999 Gucci acquired Yves Saint Laurent, and Ford was made creative director of YSL as well. It is reported that Saint Laurent didn't like Ford all that much, once remarking 'the poor man does what he can'. Nevertheless, Ford sat at the helm of Gucci until 2004 when he moved on.
