Lot Description

A similarly matched late Victorian and later silver christening set, including a knife (a/f), fork and spoon, each with bright-cut engraved foliate motifs, the knife with carved mother-of-pearl handle, contained within a fitted case, hallmarked William Devenport, Birmingham 1898, spoon hallmarked Matthew John Jessop, Birmingham 1908, length of knife measuring 6 5/8 inches (27 cm). Together with a mid-Victorian silver fork and spoon, each with bright-cut decoration to the stem and bowl, hallmarked John Taylor, London 1866 & 1867, a 1920's silver pusher spoon, a 1930's pair of scissor action sugar nips, etc. Gross weighable silver 4.6 ozt (145.9 grams).

In varied state, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The ferrule on the christening set knife is hallmarked Sheffield 1898, the blade is not attached securely to the handle and can be detached, requires attention, the fitted case has noticeable losses to the top. Minor loss of definition to the Victorian fork and spoon and handle of the pickle fork. The stems of the sugar nips do not align properly. The toasting fork has a silver ferrule and carved ivory handle. The cased set of plated and mother-of-pearl knife and forks each have a silver ferrule, there is a key present for the fitted case. Majority of hallmarks clear and legible. This lot may have export issues, for customers outside of the EU, please note that it is the buyers responsibility to adhere to any import/export requirements.
